Getting on Top of Our Traffic Problem

If more buses, light rail and subways are supposed to be the answer to our traffic problems, then we've certainly been asking the wrong questions. Ronald Reagan wisely counseled, "Freedom is the right to question and change the established way of doing things. It is the continuing revolution of the marketplace. It is the understanding that allows us to recognize shortcomings and seek solutions. It is the right to put forth an idea, scoffed at by the experts, and watch it catch fire among the people. It is the right to dream -- to follow your dream or stick to your conscience -- even if you're the only one in a sea of doubters."

The Unbelievable FactsThe fact that Los Angeles has had the worst traffic conditions for 19 consecutive years is unbelievable. The fact that nothing has ever been done to correct it is unforgivable. And the fact that our elected officials have absolutely no plans for returning LA to being No. 1 in the nation again for having the best traffic conditions is both unbelievable and unforgivable.

Let there be no misunderstanding; the only way to resolve today's unbearable gridlock and restore LA's prominence in mobilizing our citizenry is to build a new transportation infrastructure with fresh and forward-thinking ideas. Albert Einstein had it factually correct when he forewarned: "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking that was used when we created them." more
